EvalLite™ is a windows based software application to evaluate datawarehousing tools. By using EvalLite, an individual or a project team can create a single repository of vendors, their products and sales representatives. You can rate each product on the basis of their weeknesses and strengths. Compare products by simple report built in EvalLite™. One of the initial phases of data warehouse project has Tool Selection Process, use EvalLite™ to reduce the cost/efforts associated in this phase. |
EvalLite™ costs $134.95 per 5 cpu license. It includes Free support. Free Updates untill the next new release. Free Questions for the vendors to ask, you can then convert the answers into ratings. 20% discount for next major release. |
When you register for download, you get the authorzation code, which is valid for 14 days. If you've not noted the authorization code while downloading EvalLite, please email Evaltech Support to get one for yourself. |

If this is your first time using EvalLite™, follow these steps: 1. Open the EvalLite™ application and Select Connect from File Menu 2. Security Window will popup (See figure1) 3. Enter the Username and Password (Default is ADMIN and Password is ADMIN) 4. Main Screen will show up (See figure2) |
1. Click Poducts/Vendors/Sales Rep button on Main Screen. 2. Manage Vendors/Products/Sales Rep. Screen will show up (See figure3) 3. Use Add, Delete & Save buttons to update the Database |
1. Click Category/Criteria button on Main Screen 2. Category/Criteria Screen will show up (See figure4) 3. Select the Tool Type (ETL,CTF, OLAP) |

Evaluate the Tool: 1. Click Evaluate button from Main Screen 2. Evaluation Screen will show up 3. Choose the Vendor from Vendor list on the left side of the Screen 4. Choose the Product from the list 5. Click Project from the Menu and Click New (See figure6) 6. Enter the Project name 7. Click OK to continue. 8. Again repeat steps 2 and 3 9. Select the Project name (See Figure 7) 10.Select the Category (Double Click the Category) 11.It’s Criteria will be seen in the window below the Category Window 12.Rate each Criteria 13.Click Save button to update the database Add a New Project See Evaluate the Tool Section Modify a Project 1. Repeat steps 1 to 4 in Evaluate the Tool Section 2. Select the Project 3. Click Project from Menu and Select Edit 4. Modify the Project and Click OK to continue Delete a Project 1. Repeat steps 1 to 4 in Evaluate the Tool Section 2. Select the Project 3. Click Project from Menu and Select Delete 4. Modify the Project and Click OK to continue Rating Each tool has its weenesses and strengths. Ratings are the factors by which, you can determine the productivity of the tools. Following are the rating description: 1. Poor 2. Fair 3. Satisfactory 4. Excellent 5. To good to be true |

After rating the tools, you can compare the tools by category and criteria. You generate reports, which will show the comparison chat. Summary Report This is the report by Vendor,Product,Evaluator and Project. This is a cross tab report. This report will give the summary of each category and its average ratings based on your input or your team's input. Detail Report This report will suggest the action to take on your tool evaluation process, based on the ratings. Gives you the details of each criteria for each product. |
Make sure you understand the application process before Evaluating the product. You need to Manage the Suggestion Book properly in order to get right suggestions from EvalLite™. EvalLite™ is not a decision making tool, but it is your assistant. You need to understand the Eval point system first before editing the suggestion book. Once your suggestion book is fool proof, you can benefit the power of EvalLite™. |
Weighted %Category: Each Category has one or more criteria(s), each Category has the weightage associated with it. This weight is determine by the following factors: 1. Tool Type (e.g. ETL/OLAP/Replication) 2. Target database schema [Datawarehouse- Star schema,ODS relational 3rd normal form or Data marts (Multidimensional database)] 3. Project objective - near or real-time data warehouse or ODS. 4. General Attributes or features of the ETL/OLAP/Repliation tool. Rule: Total Weight of all categories for a tool type must be 100% as in the ETL template provided in EvalLite™. Criteria: The total weighted % of all criterias associated with the category must be equal to 100% Eval PointsCategory: Eval points will determine the strength of the product. Formula: Eval Point = Weighted % * 100 Criteria: Eval points will be used for a suggestion using min/max values in a suggestion book. Formula: Eval Point = Weighted %(Categoty)* Weighted %(Criteria) Rule: The total Eval Points must be equalto Category Eval Point. Points ScoredIt is automatically calculated and depend on the ratings. |
After complete installation is successful as explained above, open EvalLite™ application 1. Go to Setup Menu and click on Authorization Code option 2. Enter the Authorization Code, which was provided to you while downloading the application. 3. Click OK Button. 4. Click Cancel button to close the window Note: If you don’t have 14-day trial Authorization Code please contact support@evaltech.com |
User Level will determine the admin rights. If you want to create a user other than ADMIN, assign a different user level. ADMIN is a Super User, You cannot modify the admin account, if you are not a super user. Super User can see all Projects evaluated by all Evaluator. |
Make sure you have installed EvalLite™ Database Server. See here for installation EvalLite uses ODBC connectivity to connect to the database Check the ODBC Connection and make sure it points to the right database file (tekdata.dbf). |
If you receive an Security Violation error message window stating that Unable to connect EvalLite! invalid logon information, please check the following: Username/Password rejected 1. Check that you are using the default username/password, which is ADMIN/ADMIN. 2. Go to Users on main screen and click Admin Choose the username and overwrite the password If you still receive an "invalid logon information" error, please email support@evaltech.com. |

1. Run ODBC Data source Administrator Odbcad32 program located in EvalTech/EvalLite/Program. 2. Go to User DSN tab and select "SQL Anywhere 5.0 Sample" DSN name 3. Click configure button 4. Modify the following field in the dialogue box 5. Data Server Name: EvalLite Server Name: default Database Name: EvalLite Database File: C:\Programfiles\EvalTech\EvalLite\Evallite.db (Use Browse to locate the Evallite.db database file or Directory where EvalLite™ is installed) 6. Click OK to Save the changes. |
